The OBS record page |
You feel like you're good at video games, and sometimes you wish you could record your sick plays?
Well, this article is here for you, and I'll give you the best record softwares there are out there, and tell you about them so you can pick the one that suits you the best. I'm not much of a tech guy, so I'm mostly talking from my experiences and people I know that have tried them, and you might experience different issues depending on your setup. I'm using a mid to high end computer.
ShadowPlay/GEFORCE Experience
Both are the same thing, it is an NVIDIA powered software. It's a great and easy to use software, that allows you to record yourself at differents FPS settings, image quality, and even allows you to get an instant replay feature. It also has different features such as key use tracking.
On a technical point, it's pretty good, it won't cause much performance loss, as long as your computer isn't getting slow already.
The only problem with this software is that it's only available to computers equipped with an NVIDIA GTX or GT card, which leaves out any AMD or other graphic cards available on the market;
You can check if your computer is compatible with ShadowPlay/GEFORCE Experience, on this site, and there are a lot of tutorials on how to get it to work available on Youtube and other websites.
You can leave a comment if you want me to do a walkthrough on how to set it up.

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software)
OBS is the software used by most streamers on twitch, since it's pretty easy to set up, even if it's kind of harder than Shadowplay and Plays.TV, and is mostly used to stream, not so much to record. It still works fairly well in regards to recording, and allows you to pick which audios you want to record, and some other stuff. You can chose which scene to record/stream aswell. It's a pretty complete app, and with some guides, it won't be too much of a hassle to set up. Once again, if you want me to do a guide on how to do so, leave a comment !
From a performance point of view, OBS takes way more resources to work properly than ShadowPlay and Plays.tv, so be mindful if your setup isn't the best, unless you want to record some low quality 240p gameplay. It is still, in terms of features, the best there is out there.
And you can also do this cool OBS inception thing with it |
Plays.tv
Plays.tv is a pretty cool recording software, it begins recording as soon as you start a game, with a pretty good quality aswell, without being too taxing for your computer. It's extremely easy to use since you do not need to setup anything. It works with every game, and for most games, creates a special folder for each game. You can also clip your records with the software without having to use an external software, and share it instantly, which is a pretty cool feature.
